For many people, weights are avoided. 'I don't want to get too bulky' and quotes such as this are commonplace around gyms, meaning Treadmills and X-Trainers are populated by people who are not getting the results that their hard work and dedication deserves. Now, there is definitely an important place for Cardio training in your exercise schedule, but resistance (weights) training is the way to get results much quicker. Resistance training will allow you to burn more calories (especially in the hours after you've stopped exercising), than Cardio training and over time will add more muscle mass to your body.
You've heard the saying, 'Muscle weighs more than fat' and this is true, but what you don't hear is that fat is much bigger than muscle (see the image below). By increasing lean muscle mass on your body, you speed up your metabolism which greatly helps the fat loss process. Gaining lean muscle and losing body fat is what people call 'toning', which is actually the goal of 80% of gym goers.
The muscles are more toned, and these is less body fat covering them.
Obviously it is important that you lift the right weights and do so correctly and here's where an individualised training program comes in. Resistance training must be aimed at specific goals, merely choosing a few exercises from Google or YouTube will not be enough (although it is better than nothing). Weights training is for everybody and I can help you get started with it, or help out if you feel you have hit a plateau with your training.
I promise you that you will notice the difference in your training very quickly and you'll look back wishing you'd started earlier. Get in touch to book your complimentary first session today.
